Read in Ukrainian

On 7-9 April, representatives of all organisations – members of the consortium – participated in the Steering Committee Meeting of the SULAWE project, which unites Ukrainian and European universities and agricultural associations for a common goal – the development and implementation of training modules for the specialties “Veterinary Science” and “Zootechnics” on animal welfare practices and sustainable production of animal products in Ukraine. The meeting took place at SLU (Uppsala, Sweden).

The project partners came together to discuss joint progress and future steps in promoting sustainable livestock production and animal welfare.

The Steering Committee Meeting was opened by Professor, Dr. Heinrich Schule. The organizers of the event announced the program and agenda.

Ylva Hillbur, Vice-Rector of SLU, shared her experience of internationalization and emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation.Then, the participants focused on the project program and its further development and presented the results of the implementation of the SuLAWe program modules:

– Module 1: Natalia Hryshchenko and Andriy Getya (NUBiP);

– Module 2: Nadiya Magrelo and Ihor Dvylyuk (LNUVMB);

– Module 3: Olena Smirnova and Yulia Vakulenko (PSAU).

Then there was a discussion on the academic mobility of students, especially in its online format. This experience was shared by representatives of all Ukrainian higher education institutions. One of the key issues was the work of the established Centres of Excellence (LLL Centres). University representatives shared their experiences in implementing lifelong learning courses.

During the Steering Committee Meeting, a bilateral discussion took place on the implementation of the project results. Special attention was given to quality assurance, in particular the update of the external interim evaluation. Future activities were also planned and further steps for the sustainable development strategy were identified.

The second day of the SULAWE Steering Committee meeting in Uppsala was filled with meaningful discussion and collaboration. Tetiana Ishchenko and Lyudmila Stepura from SMC HPHE chaired a session on Work Package 7, sharing dissemination plans for 2025, ideas for future publications, the status of multimedia learning materials and didactic recommendations. The focus then shifted to Work Package 1. Prof. Heinrich Schule and Sara Pfaff provided an update on project management tasks and financial documentation.

The meeting ended with a joint discussion, evaluation and planning of future activities. The day ended with a tour of the Department of Molecular Sciences at SLU, led by Oksana Dudarko and Gulyaima Seisenbayeva.

The final day began with a tour of Resta Gård, an ecologically clean farm that operates on the principles of ethical animal husbandry and the preservation of rare agricultural breeds and traditional crops. Our delegation members had the opportunity to learn about various activities, including the keeping of pigs and sheep with lambs. The project representatives were introduced to the commitment to organic farming methods.

The project participants outlined new areas of cooperation and the implementation of international experience in both the educational process and scientific activities.
