Share experience in organizing sustainable animal husbandry
In the framework of the project “Sustainable Livestock Production and Animal Welfare” (SuLAWe), a webinar on “Management of technological processes and automated productivity recording in sustainable dairy farming” was organised by the Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after S.Z. Gzhytskyi together with the SMC VFPO on 11.12.2024.
The aim of the event was to familiarise participants with a wide range of issues relating to animal productivity recording to ensure proper herd management and breeding purposes.
Webinar participants learned about:
– Legislation on animal productivity recording in Ukraine;
– Modern automated dairy farm management systems;
– Digital technologies for recording in animal husbandry;
– Using information for herd management and improvement of efficiency and profitability of dairy farms.
Prof. Serhii Ruban, Head of the Department of Animal Genetics, Breeding and Biotechnology at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP), gave a presentation on “The General Importance of Recording and Data Processing in Livestock Production. National and International Requirements (ICAR Standards)”, in which he gave examples of successful cases of record keeping on dairy farms in Ukraine and focused on the role of the SuLAWe project in improving the training of specialists in precision livestock farming.
Prof. Nataliia Mazur, Associate Professor at the Department of Animal Production and Processing Technology at the S.Z. Gzhytskyi National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology in Lviv, informed the audience about the advantages and disadvantages of modern automated dairy farm management systems.
Dr. Mykhailo Matvieiev, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Dairy and Meat Production Technologies at NUBiP, shared his experience of using modern mathematical methods in animal breeding.
All presentations were followed by a lively discussion.
