Strengthening cooperation between national universities within international projects
In the frame of the international project “Sustainable Livestock and Animal Welfare” (SULAWE), an online seminar was held on 28.11.2024, organised by the Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after S.Z. Gzhytskyi together with SMC VFPO on the topic ‘INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR RISING YOUNG Cattle – THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL Dairy Business’.
The event was aimed at familiarising participants with the following topics
– optimal conditions for calves with respect to welfare,
– effective strategies for feeding;
– modern technologies for growing young cattle;
– implementation of preventive measures to avoid diseases, vaccination, treatment strategies and care for sick calves,
– introduction to the principles of sustainable development in dairy farming.
Nadiia MAGRELO, Associate Professor of the Demchuk Department of Hygiene, Sanitation and General Veterinary Prevention, Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology, informed the audience about the latest innovations in calf hygiene and welfare. Particular attention was paid to highlighting the experience of the SULAWE project, in particular, the development of teaching modules.
Serhii Ruban, Head of the Department of Animal Genetics, Breeding and Biotechnology at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, made a presentation on the importance of calf rearing in the system of dairy farm management, in which he also stressed the importance of the SULAWE project for establishing close professional contacts between scientists within the country.
