Study visit to Nuertingen-Geislingen University (NGU), Germany (01-09 of July 2024)

On the 1st of July, the SULAWE teachers training mobility for LLL Development Sustainable Livestock Production and Animal Welfare programme started at the NGU(Germany).

Prof. Dr Heinrich Schule and Sara Pfaff acquainted the teaching staff of higher education institutions with the programme of the study tour. There was a short city tour and a tour of the HFWU campus.
The project participants together with Prof. Dr Stephan Schneider and Sara Praff visited the research farm of HFWU

During the second day of the training for the ukrainian teachers Sarah Pfaff has presented the presentation “DiWenkLa, focus on approaches to continuing education/LLL approach. Agricultural education in Baden-Württemberg”.
Then Professor. Heinrich Schule and Sarah Pfaff proposed to participants of study visit the exchange of views on higher education and lifelong learning in Germany.

The next day the participants of the study trip visited DEULA Baden-Wurttemberg. Marco Rali gave a presentation and led a tour of the DEULA educational center. Johannes Fuchs made the presentation “Approaches to lifelong learning and a business game”, and together with the project participants, they played such a game.

The excursion to Baden-Württemberg Agricultural Center (LAZBW) was very interesting and useful.

The center is divided into 4 locations: cattle; production of dairy products; pasture management; wildlife and fishing. Project participants, together with Sarah Pfaff and Inessa Maurman, visited the cattle location.
Johannes Kuon, the owner of the farm, conducted an interesting tour for Ukrainian specialists.

Also, as part of the program, the program participants visited Energiepark Hahnennest GmbH© Co.KG, which is engaged in the recovery of energy sources with mixed silphi – an innovative energy plant for biogas.

As part of the study visit to Nürtingen as part of the implementation of the SULAWE project, an interesting meeting of the project participants took place with the head of the State Institute of Agriculture, Food and Rural Areas (LEL) Ernst Bjerg and representatives Katrin Schabel, Anke Gulz and Sara Otto. The Institute has six organizations: Training and Consulting; Sustainable Corporate Development; Rural Development and Landscape; Agricultural Markets and Quality Assurance; Baden-Württemberg Rural Academy; State Nutrition Center.
The representatives of the institute presented the work of all organizations in their presentations.

The participants of the program visited the mixed family farm TREBER-HOF fellbach. Their agricultural business has its roots in Fellbach for many generations. The owner of the farm gave an interesting tour. The farm also offers a children’s program: “From egg to chicken”, “From ear of corn to bread”, “From apple to juice”

The participants of the SULAWE project visited the modern animal farm Galdenhof, which is located on the edge of the Swabian Alb in Beuren-Balzholz.
The farm is engaged in animal husbandry: cattle, laying hens and horses. They also grow: grain crops, corn, lentils, potatoes, clover.
There is a self-service farm shop on the premises with their products.

As part of the program, the participants of the study visit visited the German Agricultural Museum (DLM), which has several pavilions: transitional potato growing, vehicles, plant protection, tractor hall, harvesting technology.

Project participants, together with Professor Heinrich Schule and Sara Pfaff, visited the park and the Hohenheimer campus.

The work of the SULAWE project continues, the participants together with Sarah Pfaff visited the Boxberg Education and Knowledge Center (LSZ) of Pig Farming State Institute. Eva Maria Gertz conducted a tour of the stables at the most important areas of LSZ. The center focuses on sustainable and safe animal husbandry in alternative farming.
They listened to a lecture by Ulrich Strubel and got acquainted with traditional systems and methods of keeping and alternative ones that take into account the animal welfare.

The educational visit of teachers of higher education institutions within the framework of the SULAWE project has ended. On the final day of the visit, the participants listened to Maren Bernau’s lecture “Ferminar” (webinar on the farm) as a means of disseminating information.

At the end of the program, issues related to the development of LLL courses were discussed, an evaluation of the study trip was made, and certificates of participation in the study visit were presented to the participants.
