An international summer school is being held from 2 to 13 June 2025 at the Center for Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Development of Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Aquatic Bioresources of the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine. The aim is to implement the strategy of international cooperation between scientific institutions and universities, exchange experience and improve the quality of the educational environment, as part of the Erasmus+ programme international project “Sustainable Livestock Production and Animal Welfare” (SuLaWe).

The International Summer School was organised within the framework of the Erasmus+ SuLaWe project, a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP), Poltava State Agrarian University, S. Z. Gzhytskyi National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology; Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University; the Scientific and Methodological Centre for Higher and Professional Pre-Higher Education; the Milk Producers Association; the Association of Pig Farmers of Ukraine; Nürtingen-Geislingen University; the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences; and the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, as well as other associated members.

The event was opened by representatives of the consortium universities’ administrations: Ruslan Kononenko, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Aquatic Bioresources at NUBiP of Ukraine; Svitlana Usenko, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Food Technologies at Poltava State Agrarian University; and Ihor Dvyluck, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work at S. Z. Gzhytsky National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology. Sara Anna Pfaff, SuLaWe EU Manager at the Graduate School of Economics and Environment at the University of Nürtingen-Geislingen in Germany, then delivered the welcoming speech. The International Summer School founders expressed their deep joy at the consolidation of inter-institutional ties and the significant scientific achievements generated during the implementation of the international project studying sustainable development and animal welfare issues.

Over 60 students, postgraduates and university teachers took part in the International Summer School. The communication that took place during the course helped to forge close relationships, with the aim of developing new projects, as well as educational and scientific activities.

The training consists of three main modules: Sustainable Animal Husbandry; Animal Welfare; and Precision Animal Husbandry. The lecturers at the school are associate professors and professors from Ukrainian and European universities. The organisers of the event sincerely hope that combining the best pedagogical practices will improve the educational landscape in the direction of sustainable development and that close interdisciplinary ties will open up opportunities for creating a high-quality living environment for future generations. Everyone is invited to participate. You can find the programme for the International Summer School on the project website.
