Biotechnical Faculty of the UL is devoted to cooperation in education and research, offer education as well as research, professional, and advisory services in agriculture. The fundamental mission of the Biotechnical Faculty is to provide university level, advanced professional, and postgraduate education, as well as to carry out scientific research and technical and consulting work concerning the sciences of living nature (biology, microbiology) as well as agriculture, forestry and fisheries (forestry, animal husbandry, agronomy) and the related production technologies (wood technology, food technology, biotechnology). Depart. of Animal Science is one of the seven departments of Biotechnical Faculty. It is running undergraduate programs research and expert work in the field of Animal Science. Great emphasis is given on food safety, sustainability and biodiversity in animal production, marketing and promotion of animal products and on knowledge transfer to the practice.

Within the University operate a number of laboratories equipped with high and modern laboratory equipment. The staff at these laboratories have expert knowledge in the field of analytics, interpretation of results and quality control programs. Considered are all ISO standards and many laboratories have international accreditation.

UL has participated in different EU funded projects including several Temps and Erasmus project. It participated like partner university but has accumulated enough experience to coordinate the project in the field which is very close to previous activities.
